The Academy of Social Sciences cyber security degree programs have been reviewed, approved and included in the European database of cyber security degree programs by The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA).

Genesis of the agency

ENISA – European Union Cyber Security Agency – the European Union agency responsible for ensuring a high and effective level of security in networks and information systems in the European Union.

Established on March 15, 2004 by Regulation (EC) No. 460/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council under the name of the European Network and Information Security Agency, it serves as a center for advising European Union member states on issues related to Internet security in the broadest sense and contributing to the development of the information society. It is headquartered in Heraklion, Greece, but its primary activities are carried out in Athens.

Pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2019/881 of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 17, 2019 on ENISA (European Union Agency for Cyber-security) and the certification of information and communication technology cyber-security and repealing Regulation (EU) No. 526/2013 (Cyber-security Act), the agency’s name has been changed to the European Union Agency for Cyber-security, leaving its current acronym.

Tasks of the agency

ENISA participates in the implementation of the EU’s cyber security policy. It builds trust in digital products, services and processes by designing cybersecurity certification systems. It works with EU countries and bodies and helps prepare for cyber challenges.

The agency works with organizations and companies to increase confidence in the digital economy and the resilience of the EU’s infrastructure, thereby ensuring digital security for EU citizens. To this end, it is involved in disseminating knowledge, training employees, building structures and raising awareness. The EU Cyber Security Act expanded the agency’s remit.

ENISA mainly works for public organizations:

  • bodies, institutions and decentralized bodies and agencies of EU countries
  • EU institutions, agencies and other bodies.
